Meppayur
Grama panchayat

The Meppayur Grama Panchayat, which extends across the two villages of Meppayur and Kozhukkallur, comprises ten desams (local regions). In accordance with the Kerala Panchayat Act of 1960, the present Meppayur Panchayat was formed in 1963.
Before this reorganization, the local administrative structure was as follows:
•    The desams of Meppayur, Keezhpayyur, Changaramvelli, and Kayalad came under Meppayur Panchayat.
•    The desams of Narakkode, Nidumboyil, Chavatt, and Kozhukkallur were part of Kozhukkallur Panchayat.
•    The desams of Elambilad and Vilayattur came under Vilayattur Panchayat.
Later, these areas were unified to form the present-day Meppayur Grama Panchayat.
